The Welcome Page Creator for Splunk is not a traditional app. It is a collection of helpful pre-built panels that can be added to a dashboard to help users make the most of Splunk.
This app is simply a showcase of the pre-built panels. Please do not clone these.
Splunk Install
Install the Welcome Page Creator on any Search Head in your environment. The Welcome Page Creator should NOT be installed to any Forwarders and Indexers that are not also Search Heads.
Refer to the standard methods for Splunk Add-on installs as documented for a Single Server Install or a Distributed Environment Install.
Please customize the "Internal Community" panel. Learn how to properly edit a prebuilt panel so changes are reflected across the deployment. The write permission on your app should be changed so that only admins can edit the app and its Knowledge Objects.
Version 3.0.1 includes an app template called "workspace". This template accelerates the time to create a new app with a landing Welcome page.
A "workspace" is an app that a team or functional group uses to segregate their knowledge objects from other users on the platform.
A "welcome page" is a default dashboard within a Splunk users default app that contains welcoming information.
Workspace Template
The Welcome Page Creator contains a Workspace app template. To take advantage of it, copy the folder path below:
$SPLUNK_HOME/etc/apps/welcome/static/workspace
to
$SPLUNK_HOME/share/splunk/app_templates/workspace
(Restart not required!)
The prebuilt panels of 3.0.0 version and later use a "welcome_" preceding naming convention. Upgrading in place will result in duplicate pre-built panels, as the old and newer versions have different file names.
1. Uninstall app throughout your environment. References to prebuilt panels on existing dashboards will break during this time.
2. Install version 3.0.0 or newer of the app.
3. Edit references to the prebuilt panels adding "welcome_" to switch to the newer panels. Or in the GUI, delete old panels and add new ones.

New features:
* Starting page to explain what the point of the app is.
* Data Exploration table. Instead of looking at sources/sourcetypes/indexes/hosts individually, created a panel for exploration what sources exist on what hosts and vice-versa. Intention is to allow those new to Splunk to find their data.
* Waiting on your Admin panel
* Panel for Splunk Education
* New links to videos
* New menu system
* References to cheat sheets and quick reference cards
* Some in-app panels and content to educate new users about splunkiness
Bug Fixes:
* Typos fixed
* Wall-o-Shame panel now only showing items longer than 5min. Edit the minute_threshold field in the search to change this
* Eliminated hard coded versions in some external docs links

New Panels:
* Waiting on your Splunk Admins? - resources for users to gelp help without being dependent on admins
* Candidates for Promotion to Power User - Most active users that are not already in power user roles.
- Admins should embrace and educate these users so they can teach the gospel of Splunk to their team members. This results in less work for Admins thanks to more people with expertise.
- There are two versions of this dashboard. The tagcloud that is inline on the launchpad because it uses custom javascript and css. There is also a prebuilt panel that produces the same information as a simple table.
